December 07, 2004Google Makes Changes to the Site Flavored Search BoxGoogle has made a few changes to their site-flavored search box, which you can find at Google Labs ( http://labs.google.com ) or directly at http://www.google.com/services/siteflavored.html . This tool allows you to set up a Google search based on your search profile. Give Google your URL and it tries to figure out your profile. For the most part it did pretty good with a couple of stumbles -- it had CNN as politics instead of news -- but you can edit the profile it suggests. From there you can generate HTML that creates the search box that provides results more slanted to your profile. The improvements? I didn't see what was explicitly announced. Adding just one element to a profile didn't seem to impact the search results that much, though the search results that were pushed up because of the profiling were spot-on. I think this kind of search customization has a long way to go, but this is an interesting experiment. Posted to Search Engines-Google | TrackBack
