Singingfish Launches New Search Destination

Singingfish has launched a new multimedia search which is now available at http://www.singingfish.com . Please note that Singingfish does not to my knowledge have anything to do with the recently-reviewed GoFish; what multimedia has to do so exclusively with fish is beyond me.

But anyway. Singingfish doesn't go into searching ringtones, movies, and all that; instead of you can search for audio, video, or both. But you have more search choices beyond that; you may search for four different formats, eight different categories of content, and two different lengths (more than a minute and more than three minutes -- handy when you're trying to avoid getting clips of songs in your results.) There's also a family filter checkbox.

I left everything at default and went searching for Professor Longhair. A search for "Professor Longhair" found 82 results. Result listings include the name of the song, the musician, and the site URL where the clip is located. There's also a clip length. A direct link allows you to play the clip from the search results; sometimes there's more than one clip to play depending on format and the quality of the clip(s).

I decided to search for something less music-oriented and tried "Monday Night Football." In this case I got 28 results including a couple of things from NPR and a couple of links to the theme from Monday Night Football.

In addition to the simple search the site also lists most popular searches, top recent searches, and staff favorites. You may save searches (this appears to be cookie-based) or e-mail searches to other folks.

I was surprised at the breadth of stuff I found in my searches and happy with the speed of the site response. Good stuff; well worth a look.
