December 31, 2004This Is True Puts Its Archives OnlineI've been reading This Is True for ages. It's a free weekly newsletter (a paid version is also available) that contains summaries of odd or unusual news stories that have taken place all over the world. If you want to subscribe, you can: it's at http://www.thisistrue.com . The newsletter has been going on for over ten years, which is going to be over 5,000 pages worth of materials according to newsletter editor Randy Cassingham. At the moment however he's already put up over 500 pages at the newsletter's new archive site: http://archive.thisistrue.com . This is the first "volume" of This is True, covering mid-1994 to mid-1995. You can either view a list of stories, get a random story, or do a keyword search. A keyword search for "dog" found about a dozen results (no result count, rrgh (Update: This has been fixed)) with the date of the story and the title of the story. Click on the title of the story and you'll get the story. The plain text is the summary, and the italics are the appopriately wiseguy comments from Cassingham. As I noted there's only 500 or so entries here, but once he expands it, it's going to be a serious timesink. Funny stuff. How about a utility so we can e-mail especially funny stories?
