January 03, 2005New Search Engine Nokodo LaunchesNokodo's been in beta for a while, but officially launched on January first. This full-text search engine is available at http://nokodo.com/ . While this site has some decent features, it also lacks some basic offerings. Like results count. I did a Web search for Fred. While I got ten results, I did not get a results count. A results count is important so you can tell at a glance if your query was sufficient or if you need to expand it or narrow it down to get a useful/manageable results count. Nor do the results have a page size or a distinct cache. What they do have is a link to older versions in the Internet archives, as well as a link to Alexa information on the page. I wasn't very impressed with the relevance, either. I searched for Hawaii and the first result was for Hawaii hotels. On the first page of ten results, only one of them was a page on Hawaii's Web site. I went and looked at the news search, hoping I would be more impressed, but unfortunately all the results I got were from what I think is the Internet Newswire. Wuh? There just wasn't anything here that really impressed me. I know Nokodo is new, but they've got a lot of work to do. Posted to Search Engines-Various | TrackBack
