January 21, 2005Spotting Exotic Cars, the Online DatabaseYou love those new groovy sleek cars that might cost more than your house. But, as someone has noticed, most of the images of them are from showrooms and carefully-arranged photo shoots. If you're more interested in "candid" shots of cars, check out ExoticSpotter at http://www.exoticspotter.com . This site features cars in their normal environment -- that is, driving around town. I know nothing about cars so the nav on the bottom of the page came in real handy for me. It lists a variety of car makes from Acura to Vector. Pick a car make (or a model) and you'll get another page. I chose Lamborghini Gallardo. I got a page of thumbnails with the model of the car in the thumbnail and the locations (only one on the front page was from the US.) Click on the thumbnail and you'll get a larger picture of the car, along with the date it was spotted and any notes about the car or the circumstances in which the picture was taken ("The car belongs to a morgue.") Some of the pictures were taken from the street, or on the road from inside other cars. This pictures on this site were great; my only complaints were the ads, which were bright, flashy, and flat-out annoying. While I block pop-ups, I don't use ad-blocking software -- I don't feel it's fair to ad-supported sites. But these kinds of ads make it really tempting...
