LOC Adds Some Prints and Photographs

The Library of Congress has announced a few updates to its Prints and Photographs online catalog, the main page of which is at http://www.loc.gov/rr/print/catalog.html . The new updates include:

-- New additions to the George Grantham Bain Collection, which contains photographic files from one of America's earliest news picture agencies. The collection now contains records and images for over 12,00 images. The direct link for the collection is http://lcweb2.loc.gov/pp/ggbainhtml/ggbainabt.html .

I did a search for "New York" and got 500 results, the first one being "[Actors' strike, New York, New York]" results have a title and date; click on the title and you'll get a thumbnail and page of information about the print. Click the thumbnail to get a larger version. These photographs are striking. Search for Roosevelt for a bunch of neat pictures, including what Mr. R considered a complete breakfast.

-- American Revolution Prints and Drawings. Over 700 prints and drawings have been gathered into this collection. Go to http://www.loc.gov/rr/print/whatsnew.html for more information on the collection, or go directly to http://www.loc.gov/rr/print/whatsnew.html to browse all the pictures. Pictures are presented in sets of 20 thumbnails, though not all thumbnails have larger images associated with them (the top of the page says "some larger images can't be displayed offsite." So if you're looking for a larger version of that Admiral Byron print, you're out of luck....)

-- Middle East Photographs. Over 900 photographs dating from about 1860 to 1940 have been cataloged into this collection. countries represented in this collection include Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Turkey. The direct link to browse the photographs is http://tinyurl.com/5uacq . When you go to this link you'll notice that there are only nine results here. That's because the photographs are divided into nine categories. If you look at each listing you'll see that the listings have the numbers of photographs listed on them.
