Computers in Libraries -- Friday Musings

The network at the hotel has been having some outages, and TextEdit just ate the first draft of this early Friday report, so it seems that my real time blogging won't be quite as real as I hoped it would be. But onward anyway, just a few thoughts this morning as I sit in the concourse before the speech by Chris Sherman:

* The RFID session was packed, and it was a great session. Anybody who has anything to do with lumps -- buying, selling, tracking, moving around -- would have gotten something out of the session. More of a writeup in a bit.

* The chairs in the conference hall are not conducive to sitting for long periods of time. Fortunately the chairs in McClellands in the lobby are great for sitting around for a long time, eating popcorn, drinking soda and watching a basketball game. And recovering from the chairs in the conference hall.

* There is not enough time to do everything!! Will I even get a chance to do more than a cursory look in the exhibit hall?

* I caught Blake Carver's session yesterday and it was interesting and worthy of a longer writeup, which it'll get. Blake mentioned that he often felt like a babysitter, having to ref between users who were complaining about each other. Suggestion for Blake: do a video clip of yourself imitating the whiny e-mails you get and put it up on the site. I suspect complaints will drop dramatically.

* Talked about (in a great way, as rock stars in absentia) but not seen: Jessamyn West, Jenny Levine, LibrarianinBlack.....
