March 07, 2005It's Like Google Suggest, Only for AmazonI couldn't get this to work in my version of Opera (which I need to update) so if you're an Opera user, fire up Firefox. Francis Shanahan has launched Zuggest, which is like Google Suggest only it uses Amazon. It's not perfect, but it's very fast. You can access it at http://www.francisshanahan.com/zuggest.aspx . Just start typing in your query. If you're a fast typist, you may be able to get in a short query before the page starts refreshing. I typed in Richard Feynman. After I typed it in the page refreshed with a bunch of items related to my search result, which was both good (The Feynman Lectures on Physics Volumes 1-2) and bad (Euro 18" Suit Hanger with Ribbed Bar). Item information includes picture, item type, and price. The search apparently doesn't recognize quotes, which is a bit of a bummer when you're searching for someone with a name like Richard. Or more generic words. I typed in Professor Longhair. While I did get Rock N' Roll Gumbo and some other Fess-related stuff, I also got results like "Russia - Land of the Tsars" and "Marvel Legends Series 9 Figure: Professor X". It would be nice to be able to set this to search a certain type of product only, to minimize way offbase results, especially when I'll I'm looking for is just music, or just DVDs, or whatever. Despite the fact that the results can be a bit wonky I liked the search. It was nice to get search results so quickly and when I tried searching for specific book titles, I got some good related stuff amongst the weird results. Posted to Internet-Tools | TrackBack
