March 10, 2005More Images at the South Australiana DatabaseThe State Library of South Australia has added over 19,000 images to its South Australiana Database. These new images come from the Arthur Searcy collection. Arthur Searcy took photographs not only in Australia, but around the world in the first quarter of the 20th century. Searching and viewing the images, however, is a bit of going around your elbow. You'll start at http://www.catalog.slsa.sa.gov.au:1084/search/Y , but this is a wider search than just images. From here choose advanced search, and then choose "images only" in the category name. I did all that and search for Zealand. I got 86 results, in a table showing the name of the item and the year of the item. Click on the name to get additional information including material type (cartoon, photograph, etc.), author/photographer/creator, notes, keywords, and date. What you WON'T get the photograph itself. That you must get by clicking on the "view image" link at the bottom of the page. You'll get a good-sized representation of the photograph with title, description, and date.
