People Are Using More Than One Search Engine

Nielsen//NetRatings sent out what was to me a very heartening press release on February 28. The press release stated that "a minority of searchers exclusively use only one of the top three search engines-Google Search, Yahoo! Search and MSN Search." 58 percent of Google searchers, the press release said, also go to one of the other top search engines. You may see the press release at http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/050228/sfm063_1.html .

I find that great news, and not because I think Google's a bad search engine - I don't. But I do think that getting into a rut is one of the worst things a searcher can do. It means they're not taking advantage of all the up and coming search tools out there.

So please, use Google but also try Yahoo and MSN. And while you're at it try Ask Jeeves, Gigablast, Vivisimo, and one of the many many useful specialized search engines out there like Feedster.
