March 30, 2005State of Louisiana Offers Information about Expertise, PropertyThe state of Louisiana has launched AccessLouisiana, a site for finding information about available commercial property in Louisiana, businesses, products, and services, and experts. It's available at http://www.accesslouisiana.com . The business product and services search allows you to do a simple keyword search. I searched for concrete, and got a whole raft of categories back (from Concrete Block and Brick Manufacturing to Weatherproofing concrete.) Each category had a number beside it to indicate how many companies were listed in it. I picked Concrete Repair and got a list of three companies. Clicking on a company names gives you name, address, phone and fax number, Web address if available, and contact person. There's also a description of the business, what services it provides, and whether or not it's women- or minority-owned. The commercial properties search is much more extensive. You get several search options from which to choose, including building type, region, county, city, zip code, square footage, and max/min rent price. I looked for buildings in the New Orleans Region and got five results. Building information includes attributes, address, and contact names. Tabs across the top of the page direct you to demographics, business, and employment information for the area. The expertise search is still different from the first two. Here you do a keyword search and specify whether you're searching for experts, centers, resource, or intellectual property. I searched experts for fishing. I got many results though no count was provided. Clicking on an expert name takes you to a section of information about that person, including position and place of employment (most of the people I looked at were university professors), as well as links to a resume, contact information, and Web site.
