March 29, 2005Yahoo Launches Search for Creative Commons ContentYahoo has announced a new search (in beta, natch) that searches the Web exclusively for content that's got a creative commons license. You can try it at http://search.yahoo.com/cc . The search is a plain Web box with two checkboxes: "Find content I can use for commercial purposes" and "Find content I can modify, adapt, or build upon". I left those boxes unchecked and did a search for spelling worksheets. I got about 28 results, starting with Canadian Home Based Learning Resource Page and continuing through stuff less useful to homeschooling. I went back and did another search with Yahoo's suggested "printable spelling worksheets" and got 2 results, the Canadian one and another one. All the page results I looked at had creative commons license information on them, most of them at the bottom of the page. If I were looking for things like homeschooling materials, documentation, or other things I was trying to adapt/distribute, this would be a good search. In some test searches I did I got a lot of blog results, though -- you might have to tweak your search some depending on what you're looking for. Posted to Search Engines-Yahoo | TrackBack
