April 20, 2005Opera 8 Is On the AirOpera has announced the release of Opera 8, now available at Opera.com. Some changes from here and 7.x include voice support, "Support for XmlHttpRequest giving full Gmail support" (yay!), notification of blocked pop-ups (this'll be useful), and some additional security features. There's also a new "Fit to window width" feature to get rid of horizontal scrolling, a "User JavaScript" It used to be that I spent about 90 percent of my time in Opera and 10 percent in IE. Now it's about 60 Opera, 30 Firefox, and 10 IE. Firefox's extensions have been one big attraction, plus the fact that it works in some places where Opera just doesn't (Google Mail and Google Maps come right to mind.) But the variety of new features available in the latest Opera-- especially the Gmail support and the fit to page feature in printing -- means I need to go load the new version and check it out. There are still many essential things I love about Opera, and if it can regain its compatibility mojo I want to stick with it. Posted to Internet-Technology-Browsers | TrackBack
