April 20, 2005The New Yahoo News BetaYahoo's got a new news beta out there, which you can check out at http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=s&u=/tour_general/static. Actually that's all sales wibeldypuff. To get to the good stuff, hit the Start Exploring button. Basically it's tabbed at the top, with the top story getting one of the few graphics on the page, and then more topics in tabbed boxes down the middle of the page. Hmm. Strangely I don't like it. Let's see if I can articulate. First the cool blue and all the white makes me think of a hospital ward -- not very personable -- and the boxed top story at the top with the graphic looks garish in comparison. And I don't like that the top story is the only story that gets a graphic! It makes it seem, to me, that there is only ONE important story and it's at the top of the page. Otherwise the light blue and white just kind of blur everything together. Yes, it's neater than the original design, but it also looks -- overly sanitized? Homogenized? I don't know. Perhaps it's just me. Posted to Search Engines-Yahoo | TrackBack
