June 08, 2005Google Making 3-D Map of San Francisco?Man, if it were anywhere near April 1st I would be seriously wondering about this story. BetaNews is reporting on a story at SiliconValleyWatcher that Google is attempting to map San Francisco with trucks and lasers. From the SiliconValleyWatcher article: "The trucks would drive along every San Francisco street using the lasers to measure the dimensions of buildings, to create a 3D framework onto which digital photos can be mapped." On the one hand this could be one of those huge leaps ahead that would trump a lot of the current map service offerings. On the other hand -- a truck? Riding around San Francisco? With lasers?... really? Posted to Search Engines-Google | TrackBack
