June 07, 2005Online Dictionary with Entries in LimerickThis makes me far happier than it probably should. The OEDILF, or "Omnificent English Dictionary In Limerick Form", is currently working on entries aa- through ba-. Its a dictionary where the definitions are given in the form of limericks. You can search it at http://www.oedilf.com/db/Lim.php . There are currently over 5000 approved limericks in the database and there's an RSS feed. You can search, of course, or browse the limericks by topic or author, or browse the dictionary alphabetically. The AF section of the dictionary had 283 entries, with Affix having four limericks, one approved and three tentative. Armadillo has ten entries in itself, including my current favorite: If you want a nice clean armadillo, (Update: I am informed that I should give credit for this limerick. It was written by "Nan".) Of course this dictionary is nowhere near finished -- it's hardly even started. But the idea is lovely and put some nice sparks in my brain. Posted to Reference-Dictionaries | TrackBack
