June 22, 2005Were Your Ancestors at the Battle of Trafalgar? The National Archives in the UK have launched a new database for people to see if their ancestors were at the Battle of Trafalgar. It's called, strangely enough, Trafalgar Ancestors and it's available at http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/trafalgarancestors . (Only those who served on the British side are listed in this database, natch.) There are about 18,000 people listed in the database, and as many as one-third of them may be from outside the British Isles. You can search them by last name, or use the advanced search by approximate age, ship name, or rating/rank. My search for Cooper found 30 results, ten to a page. The results listed first and last names, age, place of birth, and rank. There's also a "More" link for each listing. The "More" link shows you ship name, enlistment dates, and any comments.
