August 12, 2005Flash Application for Browsing Flickr TagsYou know, I used to -- and it wasn't very long ago -- HATE FLASH. I couldn't stand it. I didn't see the point of using it. It took too long to load and rarely in my opinion added much value to a site. And besides, it made it tougher for a search engine to comprehensively index a site. (That last isn't as true as it used to be.) But now I am seeing more and more Flash tools, and I'm loving them! They're sensible! They do things! They're not just gimcrack eye candy. Either Flash is getting better, Flash developers are getting better, or someone popped me in the eye with a bright light on the road to Damascus... Whatever the reason I love the Flash Flickr Related Tag Browser, available at http://www.airtightinteractive.com/projects/related_tag_browser/app/ . Enter a tag. You'll get a square of 36 thumbnails that match your tag. Click on one and a new square will open up with your photo (and a link to the Flickr photo page.) Now pull your mouse down. You'll see that a circle of tags related to your initial tag search is circling the two squares. Click on one of those tags and it starts all over again -- new square, new circle of related tags. I really don't need more excuses to play with Flickr but I loved this interface. Very well done. Posted to Aesthetics-Art-Photography | TrackBack
