August 16, 2005Icerocket Offers Tag SearchingSearch engine Icerocket is now offering tag searching for its blog search. You can search by specific tag or browse a listing of tags at http://blogs.icerocket.com/tag/ . I don't know how other tagging sites get their tags, but Icerocket says they pull category information from RSS feeds and use that as tags. And it seems to show -- I see popular tags here like Current Affairs, Health, Food and Drink -- much drier folksonomy than I'm used to seeing, really. To search tags use the search box at the top of the page. You'll need to use the tag: syntax before the keyword, which is thoughtfully provided in the search box. You can either search for all tags to be in a blog post by just listing them (tag:yahoo tag:google) or you can search for any tags by using OR (tag:yahoo OR tag:google) Now, PAY ATTENTION TO THE RESULTS PAGE BECAUSE THERE IS MUCH WONDERFULNESS HERE. The search results themselves are nice, with entries divided by date. Each entry has a list of other tags for that entry, as well as the option to exclude that 'blog from results, see all entries, or subscribe to the RSS feed. (RSS feeds for the query results themselves are on the right side of the page.) But what I'm really enjoying is the "Trend this search" option, which is at the top of the results page in the blue bar. Click on that and Icerocket will give you a graph of postings that had the tag you specified over the last 60 days. You'll also see the average number of posts per day, the percentage that represents of all posts Icerocket has indexed, and the total number of posts. You'll also have the opportunity to fill in three sets of tags and get their graphs all at once. You can graph as little as a month's worth of activity or as much as three months' worth. Very, very nifty. Posted to Internet-Technology-Tagging | TrackBack
