September 28, 2005FeedShot Multi-Feed SubmitterFeedShot ( http://www.feedshot.com/ ) allows you to submit your RSS feed to 20 RSS search engines at one time. While some of the biggies are covered (Feedster, IceRocket) some are missing (Google Blog Search, Blogdex). Enter the URL of your RSS feeds, wait a few minutes, and you'll get a list of the site submission services and the result of your submission (Succeeded, Timeout, Repeat, etc.) Some of these aren't really search engines. Some of them are experiments, different ways of using RSS feeds. Some of them I had never heard of. If you're interested in RSS this list of sites are just fun for exploring. Seeing this makes me a little nostalgic. I remember when there were lots of meta-submission sites for regular search engines. What killed them for the most part? Spam submissions. I remember talking to someone at AltaVista soon after they applied a human hoop to their URL submission process. ("Human Hoop" -- An extra step in a registration, confirmation, or activation process that ostensibly can be performed only by humans and therefore will keep out 'bots and other automated programs.) She said adding that hoop cut the URL submission by over 90% and got rid of a lot of garbage, spam, etc. I'm afraid that this is going to have to happen in the RSS submission space too, sooner rather than later. Splogs (spam weblogs) are getting to be a huge noise problem in RSS search results. But if they can't get in there in the first place...
