MSN Launches A Web API

MSN has announced a new MSN Search Web Service from their Weblog; you can read all about it at http://blogs.msdn.com/msnsearch/archive/2005/09/15/467830.aspx .

The good thing about is you get a query limit of 10000 queries per application per day. The potentially bad thing is that MSN requires a Passport account to get set up with the service. There have been some security concerns about Passport. (I don't have strong feelings one way or the other; I don't use Passport.)

MSN has a link to an article about the new service, but the link is wrong.. grr... The correct link is http://msdn.microsoft.com/msn/gettingstarted/searchstart/.

I'm a little surprised at the buzz this is not getting. The blog post announcing this, which was over a week ago, has gotten all of three comments. Are Web APIs old hat? Is the Passport requirement too stringent? Does it not cover enough data? Is it something else?
