October 18, 2005A Search Engine for HamburgersNo, I'm not kidding. There's a new search engine for hamburger lovers called BurgerFinder, at http://burgerfinder.com/. Now if I could only find something like this called VeggieBurgerFinder, all would be well. Anyway, this site is very new so don't expect too much yet. Enter a zip code and a radius, and BurgerFinder will find restaurants in the area that serve burgers. Unfortunately because it's so new it has mostly big chains -- McDonald's, Denny's, Waffle House (WAFFLE HOUSE?) I tried a zip code in my area and it found the McD's but not the Fuddrucker's. Visitors are encouraged to add their favorite burger places to the database. I did a search for everything within 5 miles of 10019, and got 129 results. They were all McDonald's. Yikes! When the database is fuller, though, this is going to be nifty; click on the name of the restaurant and you'll get several bits of information, including menu items, types of burgers available, and several scores based on reader reviews. You can also get a map of the restaurant location from MapQuest. I've got a couple of suggestions. First of all an advanced search. I would like the ability to exclude specific chains from my search -- maybe I want to go somewhere a little nicer than McDonald's. Also, it may not be practical, but at least pointers to nutrition information would be nice.
