October 05, 2005Find a Farmers Market in Your AreaFall's here, and you know what that means. FARMERS MARKETS! Now's the time to drive over to the 'market and load up on wonderful fresh produce. The USDA has a map of Farmers Markets in the US available at http://www.ams.usda.gov/farmersmarkets/map.htm . This is very old school; basic clickable map at the top, list of state names at the bottom. (I'd love Google Maps integration with this site -- a bunch of satellite pictures of farmers markets...) When you pick a state you'll get the name of the state and the number of markets at the top, the Farmers Market authority for that state, and then a list of markets in alphabetical order. Market listings include name, address, whether or not the market is seasonal, and what days it's open. Sometimes there's also a contact name and phone number. In a few cases that I saw there was a Web site address. Don't just jump in your car, though. In reviewing the listings for Louisiana I saw that several New Orleans markets were still listed, so I don't know how aggressively this is updated. Call first, or check the Web site of your local state ag department. Posted to Science-Agriculture | TrackBack
