October 05, 2005Kebberfegg -- Keyword Based RSS Feed GeneratorWhen I was at Web Search University last month, I talked extensively (I would not shut up) about keyword-based RSS feeds. Keyword-based RSS feeds (some people call them search-based feeds) are simply RSS feeds that are created as the result of a search you've run or a keyword you've specified. For example, you can now go to Google News, run a search, and get an RSS feed of the search results based on the query you specified. So instead of having to periodically run a search, the search results are automatically updated and sent to you in your RSS feed reader. Powerful stuff! But as an attendee pointed out, it's a pain in the tuckus to actually have to GO to every applicable site that generates RSS feeds, run the search, copy the resulting URL, blah de argh. Enter Kebberfegg. Kebberfegg (kind of a smush up of "Keyword-based RSS feed Generator") allows you to enter one query, specify categories of feeds, and either get a list of feeds based on that query in HTML (with both direct links to RSS feeds and a My Yahoo subscription link) or an OPML file that you can import into another RSS feed reader. The idea is it saves you time, and allows you to take advantage of the possibilities of keyword-based RSS. Currently you can generate over three dozen different RSS feeds with Kebberfegg. I hope to add more as people send me suggestions and more keyword-based feed resources become available. Give it a whirl! Kebberfegg's at http://www.researchbuzz.org/tools/kebberfegg.pl and the first part of the new ResearchBuzz Tools section. I'll be moving all my other little gizmos (Cookin' with Google, Goofresh, etc.) into this section so they'll have permanent URLs even if my MT installation goes plotz again. Enjoy. Thanks for reading. Posted to Internet-Technology-RSS | TrackBack
