October 15, 2005PodSpider Podcast Search EnginePodSpider recently announced that they've opened a new PodSpider Portal which provides a search engine and directory of over 20,000 podcasts, both browsable and searchable by keyword. It's at http://www.podspider.com . The first thing that I noticed is here you can narrow your podcast result by language -- English, French, German, or All -- and that while you can search for podcasts you can't search for episodes. There's a keyword query box on the front page as well as a directory structure that also lists the number of podcasts per category (Entertainment 3131, Business and Finance 445, etc.) I did a search for industry and got 107 results. Result listings include title, description, and where the podcast is listed. For this search I did see a few podcasts (AskDarryl for example) that were listed twice. You can get more information about a podcast by clicking on its title; that'll give you a popup window that lists the episodes of the podcast. Click on an episode title and you'll get yet another popup window which will give a capsule description of that episode and begin playing it for you. In addition to a directory of podcasts, PodSpider also offers client-side software to download and sync podcasts with MP3 players (not just iPods), a short introduction to podcasting, and a place where you can submit your own podcast for inclusion in the directory (look for the MyCast link.)
