October 14, 2005Put Your eBay Results on a Google MapI haven't written about a Google Maps mashup lately, so what the heck. You can search eBay and map your results on a Google Map over at http://www.markovic.com/markovic.com/ebay/search.php . It's in beta. You have several search options for the eBay part -- keyword, category, distance, country, and zip code. The categories auto-refresh, allowing you to "drill down" into subcatgories. I did a search for Chevy Citation and the page refreshed with a map on the left and the results on the right. The map contained pointers to the results, the result listing contained enough information about the auction items that you could get a good idea of whether or not you wanted to click on them. (Information on the results list includes, price, category, and end time.) Clicking on the title of the item will take you to the eBay listing. Clicking on the pointer/item number next to the title will center that item's pointer on the page. You can also zoom in/out on the Google Map, which made it really easy for me to home in on that 1982 Citation just outside Chattanooga, TN. I'm not surprised someone did something like this -- the advanced search form on eBay is a thing of joy, with the ability to search by location just one way to spark ideas. I do wish that you could impose a radius limit on your searching, though -- it's kinda silly to look for Ford Pinto in 90210 and get results in Texas. Worth a look, fun to play with.
