October 04, 2005Rhode Island Announces Directory of Government ContactsThe State of Rhode Island has announced a directory of government contacts called GovTracker. The announcement about the new directory is here, while the directory itself is available at http://www.sec.state.ri.us/govtracker/. The directory is divided into several categories, including judiciary, departments and agencies, and municipalities. I clicked on municipalities and chose "Woonsocket, City of". The site provided me with contact information for the city including phone number and e-mail address, a full list of city administration (including mayor, public works director, fire chief, school superintendent -- only names are listed. Only the police chief had a contact phone number), names of city council members, and school committee. Underneath that are two sets of RSS feeds! There's a feed available for upcoming meetings as filed with the RI Secretary of State, and a feed for recently-submitted meeting minutes. And finally there's a list of associated organizations (in this case the Woonsocket City Council, Woonsocket Board of Library Trustees, etc.) Each of those associated organizations appears to have its own page, but in at least one page the action information on that page was extremely minimal. Wonderful amount of information here, nicely organized and cross-referenced, and RSS feeds as well! You GO Rhode Island. Posted to US-Rhode Island | TrackBack
