See Amazon and eBay Results Side By Side

One thing I've been learning about a lot in the last six months is online sales -- a lot of eBay stuff, a lot of Amazon stuff. One thing I noticed immediately is how weirdly different some of the used prices are between Amazon and eBay. For some things, Amazon is a lot higher. For some things, eBay. Someone else noticed this too, because they created Aytozon, at http://aytozon.com/ . Aytozon lets you compare Amazon and eBay results on one page.

The interface is very simple; enter what you're looking for. I entered Sopranos box set. You'll get a page of results; eBay on the right, Amazon on the left. The Amazon results were pretty good, but the eBay results were awful -- they were stuck on "Mad About You" box sets. so I changed the search to Sopranos box sets and this time the opposite was true -- the eBay results were excellent, very targeted, and the Amazon results were terrible -- it had gotten stuck on set-top boxes. Finally I tried Sopranos fourth season and got appropriate, though limited, results for both searches.

I think this is a really cool idea, but the targeting needs working on a bit. When the targeting is good, though, there's a lot of useful information on the results pages -- shipping costs and whether the auction takes PayPal on the eBay side, both retail and lowest used price on the Amazon side.
