November 04, 2005Books For Understanding Launches Site Redesign and RSS FeedBooks for Understanding is an online current events bibliography service from the Association of American University Presses. Four to six times a year, on average, they look at topics or events that are in the news, consult their member presses (a directory is available here) to see what books they may be publishing relevant to those topics or events, and then create a list of books relevant and useful for understanding that topic. The site's at www.booksforunderstanding.org. Topics are arranged into broad categories; specific topic lists include Kashmir, Space Flight, and the United States Poets Laureate. Book lists include book title (which often links back to a member press information page about the book), author, ISBN, and a notation of whether it's for specific or general interests. The RSS feeds include information about both new and updated lists; if you're not interested in that there's also an e-mail alert available which provides the same information. In addition to the lists the site also contains information for journalists, including "Expert Lists", and a little bit of information on The Association of American University Presses.
