Database of British Gravestone Inscriptions Available

There's a new archive of British gravestone inscriptions available. The National Archive of Memorial Inscriptions is available at http://www.memorialinscriptions.org.uk and at the moment contains information from over 200 cemeteries. (These equals about 70,000 inscriptions and 100,000 names.) There are plans to expand the project considerably in the future. There is a cost to get information from the site but searching is free.

Go to the Search tab from the front page and you'll get the option to search by surname, forename, year range, and age range. The results you get will be in a table that'll include name, year of death, and age at death.

Here's the money part; click on View next to a name and you'll be taken to a selections page. Getting inscription information costs £4.00. Some listings have additional information including photograph of the churchyard and site plan; these are £1.00 each. You have to agree to the site's terms and conditions and then it'll walk you through ordering an inscription.
