December 29, 2005Catalog of Movie Script Holdings Now AvailableThe Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced a searchable online catalog of 30,000 motion picture scripts available for research at six southern California collections. It's available at http://scriptlist.oscars.org. You may search the database by several different factors, including film title, writer credited, releasing company, release date, film type, and holding institutions. There's a handy Boolean cheat sheet to the right of the search form. The search does support stemming, so I did a stem search for zombie*. I got nine results, including Chopper Chicks in Zombietown, Zombies of Mora Tau, and My Boyfriend's Back (which matched on its alternate title, Johnny Zombie.) Information includes release company and release date, alt title (if any), credited writers, and holding institutions. All the scripts listed in the catalog are non-circulating, and may be used only at the holding library. It did not appear that anything had been digitized; the catalog is just a catalog. Plans are to update it once a month.
