December 18, 2005Getting Video Blogs by Real-World LocationHere's your new vocabulary word for the day: vlog. A vlog is a video weblog. And here's a new site for you to look at, Vlogmap http://www.vlogmap.org/. This is a site that maps the location of vlogs. The front page offers several sets of information, including a pointer to a Google Map of vloggers, list of the most recently included vlogs, or a list of the top ten countries with vlogs (countries on the list include the US, Germany, Canada, and Japan.) I pulled up the Google Map and started looking for vlogs in Hawaii, because it's cold around here this morning! Vlogs are marked with red markers; click on one and you'll get the name, author, and location of the vlog, along with a link to its RSS feed and Web site. There's also a link to send the vlog to a friend or check out vlogs nearby. In this case I went and checked out Island Ease Realty. There weren't many videos here, but there was a nice one of Oahu which was described as "boring". Not really. Green, sunny, and very warm looking. It would be nice, however, if some information with the listing included how many posts had been made in the last month (maybe this could be figured out from date stamps in the RSS feed?)
