ScoopGo Lets You Generate Your Own Feed Search Engine

ScoopGo is a service that allows you to take your own list of RSS feeds and turn them into a search engine. And while I think this is a nifty idea, unfortunately ScoopGo has a couple of limitations that make it less than it could be.

The site's available at http://www.scoopgo.com/ . You'll have to register to use it; registration requires only a user name, e-mail address, and password. Once you're registered you'll have the opportunity to create a "Scoop", a utility that only searches the feed URLs you specify.

The two big problems I had with the service are here. First problem: you can only use a maximum of 30 feeds. Not nearly enough. Second, there seems to be no OPML compatibility. It'd be great if there were a way you could generate an OPML file (via Kebberfegg or NewsGator or something else) and then just dump it into ScoopGo. Disappointing.

Anyway, it's still an interesting idea so let's keep going. You'll be asked to name and describe your Scoop, provide a list of up to 30 RSS feeds, and choose a category. Once you've done that, ScoopGo actually gives you several ways you can use your Scoop. There's a dashboard page with all the feeds in one place. There's a page of code that provides you many potential searchboxes to use with your Scoop.

ScoopGo is very fast, easy to use, and provides a lot of nice output options. I would like to see the limit on the number of feeds available to a Scoop revised upwards -- a lot. I'd also like to see OPML support added (that would be most excellent.) Good idea, look forward to seeing it evolve.
