December 29, 2005Tennessee Starts Meth Offender DatabaseI know many states have offender databases, and of course there are registries for sexual offenders, but I haven't ever seen any other kind of registry devoted to one type of crime. Tennessee has started a registry of just meth offenders, available at http://www.tennesseeanytime.org/methor/. Who will be listed is subject to some pretty narrow guidelines. From the page: "At this time, the TBI will only register persons convicted of a substantive violation of either statute; persons convicted on conspiracy, attempt, and facilitation charges related to the above statutes will not be registered." You can do two types of searches: last name and first initial, or by county. Results are listed in a table format, which includes the name of the convicted person, date of birth, county, offense, and date of conviction. In addition to the database link, the front page also has information on a Tennessee Meth Watch site, a brief FAQ (like, really brief, like, one question), and information on the Meth Free Tennessee initiative.
