December 22, 2005Washington Post Extending Its Free ArchivesWashingtonpost.com has announced that they're expanding their free digital archives from 14 days to 60 days effective immediately. Awesome! They still have paid archives going back to 1877. Unfortunately the Washington Post's advanced archive search doesn't appear to have read the same press release I did. If you're searching these archives, you can pick a range that's between 14 and 60 days in the date search, but you'll get an error message saying the free archives are only for 14 days. It's a pity, too -- you can search by headline, author, and page, and restrict your results to section. Hopefully they'll fix that soon. Meanwhile, have you checked out the Washington Post's blog at http://blogs.washingtonpost.com/washpostblog/. Yoiks. It's an overview of what's being updated on the site, and they seem to add to it a lot. Information here includes news on a mobile version of the WP, improvements to the Congress Votes Database (which I covered at WRAL), and news about a new video podcast launch. Cool. Now if they can just fix that archive thing...
