December 06, 2005Wiki for Digitization IssuesDigiWik, which sounds like a groovy trance record label, is in fact a Wiki devoted to digitization issues. Do not look at this Web site in Opera. It looks awful. Stick with Firefox. The Wiki's at http://www.digiwik.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page and describes itself as "repository of digitization information for use by individuals, museums, libraries, researchers, and any other entities with digitization needs." There's not a lot of content here yet but there's a good structure in place already. Top categories include audio, metadata, and video. (There appear to be a grand total of 16 categories at the moment.) Audio had five articles under it, including a pointer to a PDF on CDP Digital Audio Best Practices and a thin article on podcasting. Anyone may edit/contribute, but you'll have to register and login to do so. The Wiki's off to a good start, but needs more content. I would also like to see sections, if it's possible, on promoting digital collections and digital collection file structure for search engines --- how to design them so they're as spiderable as possible. Hmm, maybe I better login and start those pages... Posted to Internet-Archives | TrackBack
