January 31, 2006Briefly Coming Up For AirHello, I'm still here, just letting you know that I'm still finishing the book. Screenshots. Three arghs for screenshots. Argh, argh, arrrrrrgh! Despite the fact that I'm not writing much on ResearchBuzz at the moment, I'm still reading a lot, and I better get a chance to write some of my thoughts down or I'm going to explode. After Jeremy took on Feedster, and Feedster responded, I drafted an eleven-point article, now I just have to write it all down. The revelation that the gov't was asking search engines for records of usage elicited a few words from me, but they're not words I generally use on ResearchBuzz so I'll have to tone that article down a bit. Meanwhile, Google Blogoscoped gets entertainingly silly with its Patriot Search. Don't miss the special syntax. The extremely special syntax. And there's so much news, so much neewwwwwwws! I can remember a couple of years ago complaining about how slow search engine news was. Ha ha ha. Not anymore. I'm also finding that a couple of my online tools aren't all that they used to be. Today's lesson, boys and girls: don't sign up for an online RSS reader unless it has feed export ability. Otherwise when it starts driving you crazy you'll have to make the uncomfortable decision to either put up with it or move your 100+ feeds by hand. Have I said argh yet? So I'm in the market for another RSS feed reader, either online or client-based. Unfortunately all the ones I've looked at so far have relentlessly clunky interfaces for adding one feed at a time. You have to go through the same hoops (or multi-step "wizards") over and over again. Now if you'll pardon me, I'm off to do more writing... thanks for reading, and thanks for your patience. There will be more soon.
