January 08, 2006Couple Zingo Resources Show Tag CloudsIf you're looking for more tag resources, you're in luck. There's a couple of zingos that you might find interesting. NEWZingo, at http://newzingo.com/, extracts tags from Google news stories and displays them as a tag cloud. As usual, the bigger the tag, the more stories on that topic. Click on a tag and you'll get a list of stories related to that tag, with the usual Google News search result format (possibly a picture, source and time, and pointers to related stories.) The tag pages also have RSS feeds available. I'm not sure how the tags are extracted, but if they're not built on straight keywords than these RSS feeds might be a good alternative to Google News keywords searches that provide too many non-useful results. Techzingo is at http://techzingo.com/ and does pretty much the same thing, only it mines Slashdot, Digg, and The Register. Interesting cloud of tags here, including ubuntu. Lemme just note that "Ubuntu" is officially On My Radar -- when I hear about it from several places in a week, from people as diverse as Rafe Colburn and a co-worker, it's time to keep my ears up. Congrats Ubuntu, you gots buzz. Okay, where was I. Oh yes. Tag story lists for Techzingo include the source, headline, and snippet. And RSS feeds are available for these as well. Knowing more about the tag extraction would be nice, and I can think of a few more tech resources I'd like to throw into Techzingo's list -- but fun. Worth a look.
