February 05, 2006Yahoo Now Offers RSS Feed Monitor as Part of Yahoo AlertsIf you have a Yahoo account I hope you use Yahoo Alerts http://alerts.yahoo.com to keep up with information like news, weather, and sports. I find their keyword-based news alerts to be terrific. I noticed the other day that they're now offering the ability to monitor RSS feeds as well. (They call it "Feed/Blog", but it looks like it's RSS feeds, and if the feed happens to be for a blog, there you go.) This feature is in beta. Log in to Yahoo Alerts as usual. You'll see a new Feed/Blog link in addition to the many other links available (including weather, news, market summary, etc.) Click on the Feed/Blog link. You'll get a setup screen that'll allow you to specify an RSS feed's URL, or choose one of the feeds you already have as part of your My Yahoo content. You can choose to receive updates to the feed once a day (if there are changes) or as they happen. You can choose to have the alerts sent to you via e-mail, Yahoo Messenger, or to your cell phone. I know there are some folks interested in RSS feeds but don't necessarily want to use a feed reader. This is another way to read RSS feeds by e-mail, or, if you like, via your cell phone. Nice.
