March 21, 2006CIL2006 -- After the Current Awareness Resources WorkshopBefore I get started, I have three messages: -- To all the workshop participants: I'm really sorry it was so cold. We complained to a Hilton person but they apparently didn't do anything. Next time we'll complain LOUDER. -- To the person from Wake Forest who spoke to me after the meeting: send me an e-mail! -- To the guy in the lobby after the presentation who made a funny remark: I'm sorry I stared at you like you had two heads. I was in my own little airheaded post-workshop world. Hello again, the workshop seemed to go well, though there was far more than could be covered in three hours -- the whys, wherefores, and whynots of current event services, or topic monitoring as I call it, is enough to fill many hours and many hundreds of pages. Gary is such a blast to work with. Thanks to everyone who attended! We did cover several things that weren't in Genie's presentation -- we'll be gathering them up and sendingthem to Genie, who will be making them available on the Web address provided on your handout. There was a lot of interest in enterprise resources for both RSS aggregation and distribution. That's something I'm going to have to look into. After a walk down the hill for lunch (Wrapworks, yum!) I sat down and looked at the conference program. I think I have the next couple of dayspretty well mapped out, though I am having a heck of a time choosing between "Searching the New Digital Formats" and "Cool Tools Update for Webmasters." Right now "cool tools" is winning, though I'll probably have to flip a coin tomorrow morning. Actually, everything in the Digital Libraries track (there are four tracks at the conference: Content Management, Digital Libraries, Learning, and Planning In & For A Digital World) looks very interesting. Lots of emphasis on digitization and planning. Tune into tomorrow for session overviews and breakdowns. PS -- I was getting slammed with trackback spam so trackbacks on ResearchBuzz have been turned off. Sorry about that. Posted to Internet-Technology
