Hypnotic Drag N' Drop DVD Suggestion Service

Okay, here's my occasional e-commerce site writeup: WatchThisNext, at http://www.watchthisnext.com/. It provides DVD listings, you drag them and drop them into three buckets: love it, loath it, didn't see it/don't care.

I don't watch a lot of movies or DVDs, but I found this hypnotic. Click and drag, click and drag. As you divide the DVDs into the three categories provided, the DVDs shown are supposed to be more and more targeted toward your interest. I found it was a little TOO focused: say you like Harvey Birdman and suddenly everything is Adult Swim. Say you like Monty Python and suddenly everything is Python or Gilliam. I would have liked to see more bucket selections, too -- like, "I haven't seen it but I generally like this sort of thing," or "There is an actor/director/other involved in this movie that I would walk 20 miles to avoid." And maybe filters, if you never want to see movies rated R in the suggestion list, or you never want to be shown unrated cuts.

If you're interested in a suggestion WatchThisNext gives you, you can click on the Find out More link to go directly to the appropriate Amazon page. I confess I tried to make it explode: I went through dozens of DVDs selecting either family movies (Ferngully, etc.) or unrated potato chip young adult movies (Meet the Parents, American Pie, etc.) as the movies I loved, and dragged all other offerings to the "indifferent" bucket. WatchThisNext kept up but seemed to be sticking more to the family side than the potato chip movie side. Finally it started offering a bunch of Errol Flynn movies and I gave up.
