Polly Glotto Translates and Reads Translations

Oh, this is really cute. An animated talking language translator. It's a mashup between Google Translate and SitePal. Polly Glotto is available at http://www.pollyglotto.com/.

When you first open the site, Polly will say hello. She's on the left side of the screen. Also on the left side of the screen are two text boxes, one for entering a word or phrase to translate (there are lots and lots of language pairs available for translating both to and from English) and one for seeing the translated phrase.

I entered chicken in the upper box, chose English->Spanish, and clicked Submit. The lower box refreshed to show pollo and Polly said it. If Polly is talking a little fast, you can click the Submit button on the lower box again to have her repeat herself. (Occasionally, Polly sounds like she has a bit of a hairball and it's good to get her to repeat herself.)

You can also change the dropdown menu on the lower box so that the specified language is not the language being spoken, so you can hear Tengo un pollo being spoken with a very British accent.

The translation is good for many words at a time -- I threw a couple of paragraphs at Polly and she didn't flinch. However, it does cost the site developers when Polly speaks, so donations are encouraged -- see the information in the middle of the page. A very interesting tool!
