May 06, 2006Two New York SitesA reader submitted a New York site, and then I stumbled across one in my reading, so let's do a quick New York doubleshot. First: NY Database, at www.NYDatabase.com. (The front page also links to a Los Angeles directory and search engine.) There's a searchable subject index that includes a lot of the categories you'd expect as well as several area-oriented ones (Queens, Brooklyn, etc.) Descriptions were for the most part good and the categories I looked at all had screen thumbnails for the site listings. Information on submitting sites is at http://www.nydatabase.com/listing-guidelines.html. Submitting sites is free and reciprocal links are requested but not required. Second: NY Posting at http://www.nyposting.com/, which is a NYC-oriented classified site that looks astoundingly like Craigslist. (Though the little popup windows when you mouseover an ad listing were interesting -- I don't recall that Craigslist does that.) Apparently it just launched. If you've ever seen Craigslist you'll get how it works; not a whole lot here to see yet however. (Try the items for sale listings.)
