November 02, 2002Skins from AlltheWebSearch engine AlltheWeb ( http://www.alltheweb.com ) has gotten in on the act of changing their search engine on holidays. But instead of altering their logo as Google does, they've started creating "skins." A "skin" is a CSS (cascading style sheet) that changes the look of the site. Sometimes image files are also used with the skin. AlltheWeb's Halloween skin is in the traditional black and orange with a stack o' pumpkins on the right. And now AlltheWeb has made a list of skins available for those of you who want to update the look of the search engine. It's a short list at this point but I'm sure they'll be adding more things over time. The skins directory is at http://www.a lltheweb.com/help/alchemist/gallery.html . Note you'll have to have a fairly recent browser to use these; NS 4.x is not going to work, for example. Most of the skins have been tested in Opera, Mozilla, and IE. I liked the Kiwi skin -- it was a lot more readable than you'd expect from so much green. Worth a look. Posted in the following categories: Search Engines-AlltheWeb
