Northwest History Database Collects Clippings

The Northwest History Database, at http://content.wsulibs.wsu.edu/pncc/pncc.htm , does contain newspaper clippings. In fact the database contains over 19,000 newspaper clippings from the Pacific Northwest Newspaper Clippings Collection. But there's additional information here as well; specifically federal and state documents, laws, and other source material that goes into additional background about the stories found in the newspaper clippings.

You can browse the collection by topics or you can search the database by keyword. The topic collection is somewhat limited and includes International affairs, Native American self-government, and Timber and lumber industries. Click on a topic and you'll get a list of corresponding stories, with a thumbnail of the clipping, the headline, and the date of the item. Click on the clipping and you'll get a larger version of the clipping, a transcription, and a few additional details. For searching, you can do a simple keyword search. A search for salmon found 218 results, again providing a thumbnail of the clipping, headline, and date. Some of the results were pictures; since they originally appeared in the newspaper they're not great quality but they're quite legible.

In addition to the keyword search and the selected topics,
this site also contains a bibliography of background
information and an extensive amount of source data.
Tremendous site.
