Historical Salem Oregon Photograph Collections

If you are interested in the history of Oregon, explore the Salem Public Library's database of historic photographs at http://photos.salemhistory.org/ . Five collections, totaling thousands of photos, showcase Western Oregon and the City of Salem, while dating as far back at the mid 1800s.

The database is searchable in a variety of ways (title, description, date, subject, etc.) You can also search for keywords across all fields. On the right side of the search page, there's a "browse" box that allows you to browse keywords. Pick a field and a list of keywords for that field will load onto the screen.

Search results appear at the bottom of the search page, appearing as a series of thumbnails which you can scroll left to right. Click on the thumbnail itself and you'll get a page with a large version of the picture. Click on the number below the picture and you'll get a page of information about the picture, including the date, description, original object, dimensions, and source.
