Ancestry Now Has Complete 1930 Census

Ancestry announced yesterday that they've made the entire 1930 census available on the Web site. Now Ancestry.com subscribers can search through 124 million names (and 2.9 million images.)

Now, I was psyched about this and remain psyched. But my test run of this was disappointing. Twice I tracked down a heretofore hard-to-find ancestor, only to get an error when I tried to view their census page. ("The image request cannot be processed...") For an enthused genealogy person this is like running into a brick wall at 50MPH. Argh.

Once I did find an ancestor I hadn't found before (oh grandpa MOOOORRRRRRTON! I seeeeee you!) and I found the census page viewer much easier to use. I don't know if it's because I have a faster connection or if they overhauled it. I wish there was a way to set up some kind of one click save of the census page in total and the area in which I'm interested. It's great that you can get all this stuff online, but maybe there could be an easier way to save the images to share with family offline.

Now, if Google would only include Google News in their API, I could quit whining about the sudden dearth of e-mail news alert services. Between them, Yahoo Daily News alerts, and Tracerlock, I'd be in good shape.
