December 04, 2003Blizg for Blog Metadata InformationFor a long time I've wondered why search engines didn't promote metadata standards more. I can understand that many metadata tags would be open to abuse by SEOs, but how about something like a metatag that lets a Webmaster indicate their place in LOC classification? It wouldn't have to have an impact on search position; just make it easier to rapidly organize machine-indexed materials into groups. Blizg ( http://blizg.com/ ) is attempting to spread the Joy of Metadata to a smaller group of web sites: webloggers. There are over 2900 'blogs in this index. There are ten elements of metadata which participants in the site are encouraged to use in their 'blog. They deal with location, description, and language. How to add these metatags to your Web site? Add your blog URL to the form on the front page. Once you do that you'll be taken to the update page. From there you can generate metatags which you can then add to your Web site. While the site has many lists generated by the metatags (you can get a list of blogs based on location and language, and blog profile pages show a variety of information generated from tags, including keywords and a list of blogs within 1000 km of the blog profiled.) it doesn't appear you can search the site by anything other than general keyword. Review the alphabetical list of blogs, view the recently-updated list, or search by 'blog title. Posted in the following categories: Internet-Weblogs | TrackBack
