NewsGator Launches Online Service for RSS Feeds

I am very selfishly covering this. I would like to request that everybody and their dog consider trying NewsGator. Yes, I stand to benefit directly. How? Because I've spent hours playing with this new RSS aggregator and if it sinks I'll be out a lot of time and a very useful online tool.

You might have heard of NewsGator. It has a software program that integrates RSS feeds with Outlook. (I've never used that since I don't use Outlook.) I've heard good things about it so I appreciated the fact to take a look at NewsGator's new online services at http://services.newsgator.com/ .

Despite my lead NewsGator's online services are not just Web based. This site also offers a POP (e-mail) and mobile edition, but I stuck to the Web edition. I set up a subscription list of a few dozen RSS feeds to review.

The Web edition is simple. A My Subscriptions section allows you to import or manually add feeds. Once feeds are added the Web Edition shows your feed links on the left side of a page and the feed content on the right. NewsGator shows only new content (you can specify if you want revised entries to show up as new content) Links don't open up in a new window -- a plus for me as I can quickly max out my browser flipping through a lot of content.

I found the NewsGator Web service fast to use and very addictive, though I don't know how it would hold up to the literally hundreds of feeds I read though AmphetaDesk. There are some annoying UI decisions (the "Add Subscription" And "Log Out" buttons are on top of each other) and one feature I missed (I want to be able to unsubscribe from a feed as I'm reading it, without having to take the extra step to go to the My Feeds section) but these are minor and can be smoothed out. If you're looking for an online RSS reader check this out. It will become publicly available on January 19; prices will start at $5.95 a month.
