Legacy Offers Collection of Obituary Sites

Genealogy buffs, sharpen your pencils. Legacy.com both hosts obituary sites for newspapers and offers of a free lookup of the last 30 days' of obituaries. What's available varies a lot as they are searching the sites they host, but there's more than enough here to make a visit worthwhile. Legacy is available at http://www.legacy.com/LegacyHome.asp .

On the front page you'll find a simple keyword search for obituaries and guestbooks. You can search all papers or narrow
them down by state. You can also browse the available newspapers' obituary sections by state. I chose Kansas and found there were two obituary sections available. Choose one and you'll go to that paper's Web site. If your genealogical research is concentrated on a specific area I recommend you do this, as most of the papers I looked at had 365 days' worth of obituaries, instead of only 30.

The newspaper sites also offer other features, including signing up for daily obituary mailings, information on funeral homes in the newspapers area, and other end-of-life related information (which varied by newspaper.)
